Return Assistance to Migrants and Governments
Voluntary Return is a key component of IOM's recommended response to help countries deal with irregular flows and to assist stranded and destitute migrants. It helps lessen the burden, in both human and financial terms that the presence of stranded migrants poses on countries of transit and destination and contributes to extend protection to vulnerable and destitute migrants, while discouraging present and future irregular flows to West European countries.

Counter - trafficking
IOM takes a comprehensive approach to trafficking in persons within the wider context of managing migration. The approach is based on three principles that govern all counter trafficking activities: respect for human rights; physical, mental and social well-being of the individual and his or her community; and sustainability through institutional capacity building of governments and civil society using Prevention, Prosecution and Protection interventions.
Since 2000, IOM Skopje has been actively engaged in the promotion of solutions addressing the problem of trafficking in human beings, through a variety of activities such as: researches, information campaigns, economic empowerment, technical co-operation, capacity building of the government authorities and return and reintegration assistance. From August 2000 to the end of 2007, 778 VoT have received assistance and over 30 counter trafficking projects have been implemented.
